HARWICH Runners' Richard Flutter finished as leading veteran in the latest in the Clacton 5k series.

His time of 19 minutes 32 seconds was enough to place him third overall.

Harwich Runners were also represented in races over both the 10km and half marathon.

Anne Herbert ran a stunning personal best (PB) in the 10km race, finishing four minutes quicker than her previous best in Paris earlier this year, posting 55m 4s.

Also tackling the 10km distance was Bill Haining, his fourth outing over this distance in 2016.

His time of 42m 15s was good enough to see him finish within the top ten overall.

Valentina Burley chose Clacton to make her half marathon debut in Harwich colours and she crossed the finish line in a good 2h 13m 25s.

Strong winds along the Dovercourt prom meant no personal bests for Harwich Runners at the local Parkrun.

Of the 103 finishers, a total of 27 were club members.

For the Knott family it was a repeat of last week, with Graeme first finisher in 19m 25s and mother, Elspeth, first Lady finisher in 23m 25s.

Two other members made it into the top three - Robin Brookes was second finisher in 19m 46s and Ann Piercy third finishing lady.

Piercy is the only person to have completed every run since it started last August, 58 in total.

Outside of the top three finishers, five other club members were first in their age groups.

Dennis Warner won the 55 to 59 group in 22m 38s and was eighth overall.

Jeff Higgon was first in the 60-64 group in 24m 57s while Amos Seddon in 25m 50s was first male over 75.

For the females, Alice Cole (27m 56s) was first in the 35-39 group and junior Annabel Brookes was first in the 11-14 group in 31m 01s.

Richard Flutter ran the Great Notley 5k Parkrun in 20.16 to finish in sixth place.

Nationally, this Saturday the parkrun organisation is taking the opportunity to celebrate the Great British Olympic teams success at the Olympic games in Rio by being part of I AM TEAM GB, (http://iamteamgb.com/)

The idea is to increase participation in sport for as many people as possible, particularly youngsters.

The Harwich Parkrun will have stickers and balloons to give to young runners on the day.

The organisers will make everyone welcome and provide the opportunity for people to run.

If there are people you know who haven't been involved in running before and may be tempted to try a five-kilometre run, jog or brisk walk, get them down to Dovercourt park on Saturday with their bar-codes and initiate them into the parkrun ethos.

Bar codes are available here https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/
