LITTLE Oakley's reserves provided a perfect send-off for outgoing manager Gary Kioussis after retaining the Tommy Thompson Cup.

The Acorns' second string ran out 4-1 winners against West Bergholt, in the rearranged final at the Memorial Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Kioussis is stepping down as manager and said he could not have wished to finish on a happier note.

"I couldn't have asked for a better performance from all the players," he said.

"To bow out winning another trophy was all I could hope for.

"After more than 20 years managing sides from youth to adults, it’s time to take a break.

"Oakley are a fantastic club with a powerful youth set-up and strong adults section.

"It can only get stronger and (chairman) Michael Good is extremely supportive of whoever is connected with the club.

"I'm sure I'll miss the buzz of a Saturday afternoon so can’t say I won't return, but for now it's time to head for the beach."

Kioussis' assistant, Paul Beasley, is continuing in his role, with James Good stepping up to become reserves' manager.

"The move will be a seamless one," added Kioussis.

"Paul's been a fantastic assistant. He and James don’t need luck, but of course I wish them it."

The original final had to be abandoned because of a horrific knee injury suffered by Oakley player Richard Green.

It was rearranged for last weekend and all money raised on the day was given to Green, who is expected to be off work for several months.

"The game was played in a fantastic spirit by both teams and West Bergholt did Richard proud by agreeing to play the fixture at Oakley," added Kioussis.

Talksport radio station featured the match as part of their non-league finals day coverage.

Bergholt took the lead - only for Elliot Johnson to equalise.

That paved the way for a blistering second-half performance from Oakley, who scored a further three goals.

Sean Mathurin got the ball rolling, followed by a second for Johnson.

Jake Kioussis then completed the scoring from the penalty spot.
