HARWICH and Dovercourt Owls travelled to the North Walsham Sevens tournament intent on retaining the ladies’ title they won last year and they did so with some style.

With tough competition in the round robin league, the Harwich side’s first game was against Woodbridge.

It turned out to be a disjointed game with the Owls eventually putting on some attacking flair to win the game 29-10.

The next game against Lakenham Hewitt saw Harwich develop their attacking game and dominating the match to run out 33-5 victors.

Next up were the Jolly Sailors and it was a one-sided affair with the Peterborough side struggling to cope with the pace at which the Owls were playing.

The full-time score of 43-0 highlighted the gulf.

With UEA withdrawing from the competition because of injuries, Harwich played their last league game against Wymondham after a long wait.

This had no effect on the Owls who again showed too much pace and a powerful defence to win the game 39-0.

The semi-final saw Harwich facing Woodbridge again.

This time the Owls were now on top form and on the larger pitch moved the ball at a pace Woodbridge could not cope with at all.

Despite some aggressive defence by Woodbridge they were overrun by Harwich who qualified for the final with a 51-0 victory.

The final against Lakenham Hewitt underlined the how well Harwich had improved over the day.

In attack, the pace and movement were a constant threat to the opposition defence and when Lakenham were able to get their hands on the ball they were met with a stoic defensive wall.

The final score of 39-0 highlighted the dominance of the Owls.

This was a superb display of sevens rugby from Harwich and Dovercourt to retain the trophy.
