WIX’S Laura Stephens will rub shoulders with Great Britain’s Rio-bound swimmers at next month’s European Championships in London.

The former Colchester Swimming Club member will compete alongside her more senior British team-mates at the event, at the London Aquatics Centre.

British Swimming will use the event to continue the development of a group of athletes which includes Stephens, who have bee identified as potential Tokyo 2020 Olympians.

A Target Tokyo group of swimmers will compete alongside their senior British team-mates as they develop their experience and skills.

Stephens will head into the competition on the back of two fifth-place finishes at the British Championships.

She clocked one minute 00.15 seconds in the women’s 100 metres butterfly final and 2m 10.83s, in the 200m butterfly final.

The entire Great Britain team selected for this summer’s Rio Olympics will also represent the nation at the European Championships at the London event, which begins on May 16.

Meanwhile, Stephens has been named in a young British Swimming team set to compete in Hungary for the European Junior Championships.

She is part of a team of 26 that will compete in the city of Hodmezovasarhely from July 6-10.
