BARNSTON 0

HARWICH AND PARKESTON 1

Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division

ANOTHER last-minute goal gave Harwich an exciting victory and a mid-table postion in the league.

They had an extremely strong wind at the backs in the first half but found the ball difficult to control.

Barnston fared little better and this period produced only a couple of scoring chances. Matt Geen made a powerful run through the home defence but had the ball taken off his toe when faced with a clear opportunity.

In the 40th minute, Barnston went close when their captain, Jordan Miller, saw his shot strike the post.

Facing the wind after the break, Harwich did much better and passed the ball well to create the best scoring chances.

Ashley Wood’s lofted shot had goalkeeper Kendle beaten but was inches outside the post.

In the 70th minute, Jake Neale’s header from Gavin Mann’s cross saw Kendle save Barnston and, as Harwich attacked again, Dom Nea’s clever flick saw Neale shoot over.

Geen and Ben Elliott combined well and again Kendle saved his team.

Barnston did threaten on the break but it was Harwich who looked the most likely and, from Wood’s accurate free-kick, Nea found the side-netting.

It looked as though Harwich were to be frustrated but, in the 88th minute, they pressed again and Elliott hammered in the vital goal.

In injury time, Barnston almost snatched a leveller when Miller’s shot struck the crossbar.

Tomorrow, Harwich entertain Coggeshall Town (kick-off 2.30pm).
