HARWICH Runners were in action at a variety of races.

Rob Reason led the charge at the Chelmsford 10k, coping well with the bitterly cold conditions to post his fastest time since 2013.

Recording 33 minutes and 57 seconds, he finished sixth overall in a high-quality field.

Nick Beales was competing in Chelmsford too, posting 46m 58s and finishing sixth in the MV55 age group.

Karen Martin completed the Harwich line-up at the race, finishing in a time of 59m 5s in her first outing over this distance for the club.

In Milton Keynes, prolific racer Ian Cannons joined a multitude of fancy-dressed participants in a scenic Movember-themed 10km race.

Cannons recorded a time of 46m and placed 57th in a congested and colourful field of 550 runners.

Meanwhile, at the Eastern Cross-Country Championships, at Hilly Fields, in Colchester, there were several races on offer.

In the 12km race for the adults, Richard Flutter did brilliantly to place 35th, while Bill Haining, coming back from injury, took part in a 6km race, finishing fourth in his age group (MV60) in a time just inside 27 minutes.

Michael Knowles took part in the under-13 boys’ race, placing 14th in a top-quality field with an impressive sprint finish gaining him a valuable extra place at the end.

He is clearly one to watch, as this result followed hot on the heels of a terrific result in the District Schools Cross-Country Championships the week before.

Elsewhere, the previous week, Peter Fraser-Hopewell took on and conquered the tough Paras 10 at Colchester, in 1h 26m 16s.
