NOMADS Pumas hold the distinction of being the longest-serving team in division three of the Clacton and District League.

However, after 17 continuous seasons, this could be the year that sees them move up the local table tennis ladder.

The Pumas made it seven wins out of seven with a 7-3 victory over Windsor Penguins – a result that puts them 13 points clear at the top of the table.

Eric Lemke remained unbeaten but it was a close-run 12-10 in the decider against super-veteran Ron Dacey, who won a couple for the Penguins.

Lionel Goddard, now in his tenth year with the Pumas and his sixth as captain, won a couple and John Bowers – a Pumas’ player for 15 of the last 17 seasons – took one.

Second-placed Nomads Ocelots beat Nomads Cougars 9-1, with Mike Wellum and Scott Campbell unbeaten. Walton D were 9-1 winners against Windsor Ospreys.

The closest match saw Walton’s Lynette Sparks edge out Debra Found 12-10 in the fifth.

There was a treble for Andrew Cawley and two each for Hazel Blanche and Jordan Webb, as Nomads Wildcats defeated Windsor Kites 7-3.

Chris Simson won two for the Kites.
