LAURA Stephens just missed out on a place in the women’s 200 metres butterfly final at the World Junior Swimming Championships, in Singapore.
The former Colchester Swimming Club member, from Wix, clocked a time of two minutes 13.26 seconds in her heat, to narrowly fall short of qualification.
Stephens’ time left her 11th overall, with only the top eight swimmers making it through to the final.
The 16-year-old will get further opportunities to go for medals at the event, where around 500 swimmers aged between 14 and 18 years old are in action.
Stephens, who now swims at Plymouth Leander, is due to compete in the heats of both the women’s 50m butterfly on Friday and 100m butterfly on Saturday.
