PIKE activity has been reported along the stretches of Dock River, controlled by Harwich Angling Club.

As a result, the specimen pike anglers have been out to get some of the action.

During the past week, members Peter Standing – winner of the recent Bob Page Pike Trophy match – and Graham Keilty had some good results, pleasure fishing the early numbered C pegs of Dock River.

On a dry, windy and overcast day, with glimpses of sun occasionally breaking through, Standing fished from C8 peg during a three-hour late morning session.

With the river water level lower than of recent weeks, showing some colour with the margins becoming a bit clearer, he float fished a dead bait sprat down the middle of the river.

Standing had only one enquirer during his visit, hooking into and landing a good-conditioned pike of 3lb 8ozs, which was returned safely back into the river.

Later the same week, Keilty went for a an afternoon trip to the river to seek out the pike.

With the weather still remaining dry and bright but continuing to be cold, he chose to float fish to the far-side reeds from peg C5.

Using a sprat as dead bait, Keilty landed a fine jack pike of 3lb, before returning it safely back to the water.
