BRANTHAM Athletic boss Paul Abrahams admits his side face a “baptism of fire” in their pre-season friendly against Colchester United.
But he expects his young squad to relish the occasion and give a good account of themselves against Joe Dunne’s U’s.
Both sides will be playing their first friendly of the summer, in tomorrow’s contest at Brantham Leisure Centre (kick-off 3pm).
The hosts have had a summer of change so far, parting company with the likes of David and Lee Grimwood, Dan Pryke, Jack Smith, Ryan Bedingfield, Jack Sibbons and player-coach Ray Turner.
Instead, the club plan to put more emphasis on their up-and-coming players and those youngsters will be looking to catch the eye against Colchester.
“It’s going to be a real challenge and it’s a great fixture for the club,” said Abrahams.
“Joe’s bringing a full-strength squad, whereas many of our players are young and inexperienced.
“It’s going to be a baptism of fire, but that’s a good thing and I fully expect them to enjoy the occasion, apply themselves and give a positive display."
