Saffron Walden church worker Judith Hasler has been appointed a lay canon at Chelmsford Cathedral.

Judith, from Sewards End, was offered the role by Bishop Guli Francis-Dehqani in recognition of her 'long and distinguished' service to the diocese and her own ministry in the Saffron Walden and Villages Team.

The role will involve promoting the cathedral within the diocese.

Judith said: "I feel honoured that my lay ministry has been recognised by this appointment and I look forward to serving the life of the cathedral and the diocese in this new role."

Former Saffron Walden rector and area dean, Reverend David Tomlinson, with whom Judith worked for many years, travelled from Birmingham with his wife Jenny to be at the service.
