A sailing club is offering Maldon residents the chance to “get out on the water” and find out more about the organisation through a fun-filled open day.

The Harlow Blackwater Sailing Club (HBSC) is hosting a free water sports open day on May 11 from 12noon to 4pm.

The club was formed more than 60 years ago by sailors living in Harlow.

The club is for dinghy and yacht sailing enthusiasts, as well as kayaker, paddleboarders and windsurfers.

Located in Seaview Parade, Maylandsea, the club is based on the wide Lawling Creek, a tributary of the River Blackwater.

A spokesman for the club said: “Essex has more than 300 miles of coast.

“Those who have always wanted to get out on the water can pop along to the open day to find out about a range of water activities.

“HBSC will have members on hand to introduce visitors to various water sports and offer them the chance to take to the water.

“All equipment including buoyancy aids will be provided, though you should bring a change of clothes.

“For those who prefer to stay completely dry, trips around the creek on the club safety boat are planned.”

A barbecue will be held on the day, and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution will have a stall there.

Cakes and a licensed bar will be available.
