A HARWICH ferry which connects the town to Felixstowe and Shotley has returned for its summer season as its current team celebrates its 10th year.
The Harwich Harbour Ferry, which recently secured three more years of funding, has returned for its summer season with the daily service running from March 29 to October 31 subject to weather conditions.
Lucy Zemann of Harwich Harbour Ferry said “We are really excited to be going into our 10th year running the Harwich Harbour Ferry.
“This season we have introduced a monthly pass, which we hope will be beneficial to our regular customers. This can be purchased on our website or on board for £33.”
Lucy said that Harwich in the summer season had “loads going on” from the Harwich Ale Trail on May 2 to 6 to the Dovercourt Skate Park Jam on May 19 as well the famous Shanty Festival on October 11 to October 13.
Lucy added: “It has been lovely hearing from customers, how vital the ferry is in providing a way for the people of Harwich, Felixstowe and Shotley to easily visit attractions and events on either side of the harbour.
“Keeping Essex and Suffolk connected, the ferry links communities which would otherwise be separated by the water. “
The ferry was given funding after Harwich Town Council agreed to renew its partnership agreement at the cost of £1,000 a year, starting in April.
The foot ferry service was founded in 1912, with Lucy and husband Chris taking over in 2015.
Prices are between £4.40 and £6.60.
While it is a half hour cross between Shotley and Felixstowe, a 15 minute crossing between Felixstowe and Harwich, and a 7 minute crossing between Shotley and Harwich.
