A GREAT Oakley school has raised much-needed funds for deprived pupils more than 4,000 miles away in Africa.
All Saints Primary School, in Beaumont Road, Great Oakley, raised £1,600 for ACK Kathanjuri Primary School, in Kyeni South, Kenya.
The Kenyan school received the money on October 15 and is now planning to purchase new educational resources, tables, a secure fence and more.
All Saints’ Early Years teacher, Nicholas Farthing, travelled to the school on behalf of the religious organisation, the Diocese of Chelmsford, last month to help the school meet United Nations sustainability goals.
However, upon his return to the UK, he felt more needed to be done, and thanks to the kind nature of All Saints Primary School, more than £1,000 was raised.
The amount was raised by its pupils, teachers, parents, and friends through a sponsored silence, parents and staff quiz night, and a Go Fund Me Page.
The teacher spoke about helping at Kathanjuri Primary School.
He said: "It was an absolute privilege to work in Kathanjuri Primary School and visit some of the amazing children in Kenya.
“Their happiness and resilience is something many people in the UK strive for."
