PILLARS that are the sole remains of the entrance to a plush manor have been renovated.
The entrance to what was Cliff House, in Cliff Park, off Main Road, in Dovercourt, is marked by two pillars, which have been given a facelift by Tendring Council at the request of the Harwich Society.
Informative plaques have now been added to the pillars by the historical group to give people a brief background of the home, which was the largest in town prior to its demolition in 1909.
The former site is marked by a brick outline in the park.
Harwich Society vice-president Andy Rutter said: “Due to their location, people do not realise that the two pillars mark the original entrance to Cliff House and are of local historical importance.
“We are grateful to Tendring Council for the restoration work and we are pleased that they now bear plaques explaining their significance.”
